Performance Score:

Based on the Affordable Care Act, under the new Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) program, hospitals’ Total Performance Score will be calculated based on their achievement and improvement for each of the HCAHPS domains as well as clinical measures during the performance period.

Hospitals will earn 0-10 points for achievement on each measure based on their performance compared to the achievement threshold (50th percentile) and the benchmark set by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). For example, hospitals scoring at or below the threshold receive 0 points. Hospitals who meet or exceed the benchmark will receive 10 points.

Hospitals will be assessed on improvement based on how their current performance compares to their own baseline period performance. The baseline period is July 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.
