SOFTWARE
Skylight Healthcare Systems developed the ACCESS Interactive Patient System using a combination of modern development languages and facilities. The client architecture is based on the Microsoft Dot Net framework with specific applications developed in Java, J#, Visual Basic and ASP. Database facilities are based on a Microsoft SQL Server.

NETWORK
The Skylight Healthcare Systems offering is supported by a category 5 Ethernet network installed into each patient room. The network provides a fiber optic backbone with a dedicated 100-megabit service for each set-top box. The network is supported by industry-standard components from Cisco Systems and Dell Computers. The network is fully secured using a combination of firewall and router technology, along with a WebSense content filtering engine to provide control over patient browsing of the Internet.

SET-TOP BOX
The system utilizes a state-of-the-art set-top box specifically engineered for the in-patient environment. The set-top box integrates the ACCESS system’s award-winning applications and interface, along with the expanded cable TV offering, access to digital video and the Internet.

STREAMING VIDEO SERVER
Video content is hosted on the network on industrial grade streaming video servers. These servers support multiple media types allowing patients a rich content experience. Patient education, Hollywood movies, and hospital-developed content are all available in multiple rooms simultaneously with full VCR controls for start, stop, pause and rewind.

SATELLITE TV HEAD-END
Skylight Healthcare Systems provides a Direct TV digital head-end for its expanded cable TV offering. The head-end provides support for both local channels and national cable offerings. Skylight works with each of its partner facilities to provide an optimum feed from the head-end to each facility’s existing television distribution system.
